PA CareerLink wins the 2008 NWA award for Innovative Business Services

December 1, 2008:  PA CareerLink Pittsburgh/Allegheny County was recognized nationally today as they accepted the National Workforce Association’s (NWA) award for their achievements in Innovative Business Services.  The 2008 NWA awards for workforce development excellence were awarded to 4 categories: Urban Workforce Development Agency, Rural Workforce Development Agency, Executive Director of a Workforce Development Agency, and Innovative Business Services.  PA CareerLink Pittsburgh/Allegheny County’s design of the Employer Contact Management System (ECMS), as well as their business services team approach to workforce development, stood out among hundreds of other applicants.

With the development of the ECMS tool, staff members were able to access the contact information for 35,000 employers in Allegheny County simultaneously through an extranet connection. PA CareerLink Pittsburgh/Allegheny County consists of 3 comprehensive centers and 1 affiliate center, positioned strategically around Allegheny County to provide the most accessibility for their job seekers and employers.  Currently, PA CareerLink Pittsburgh/Allegheny County serves approximately 6,500 employers in the area, and in 2007, they were able to post 16,103 job orders on the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS).  These jobs help the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County region grow and maintain its workforce.  Their job order numbers surpass any other workforce development area in Pennsylvania, and PA CareerLink Pittsburgh/Allegheny County strives hard to consistently meet and exceed their goals. 

Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink Wins National Award For Serving Business Customers

September 23, 2003 - Pittsburgh/Allegheny CareerLink took top honors at the National Association of State Workforce Agencies' Customer Service Awards in Seattle last week. Nominated for its excellence in serving the needs of regional employers, the organization received the Prism Award and a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.

The National Customer Service Awards honor programs and projects serving workforce investment customers nationwide. Thirty-seven nominations were submitted and the winners were chosen by a panel of judges with knowledge of business service and expertise in workforce development initiatives.

"This award represents three years of hard work and dedication by our business services unit. These staff members have combined the resources of multiple agencies and partners across 14 sites to offer efficient and effective services to our business customers. We are truly thrilled to receive this honor," says Barbara Parees, Chairperson of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink's Leadership Consortium. Parees also says the grant money will be used for enhanced services for small business and the dissemination of CareerLink best practices to workforce development organizations throughout the region.
